Reconnecting Communities to the Land and Rebuilding Self Sufficiency

Back to the Basic Farm is a teaching farm endeavor to empowering People of Color to grow food, own land, and build sustainable, healthy communities throughout the United States.

Vision

A future where People of Color are self‑sufficient farmers, landowners, and leaders in building healthy, thriving communities.

Mission

Our mission is to inspire people of color to acquire land, grow food and establish farms while maintaining and contributing to sustainable communities.

What is the reason this mission is so important?

I am glad you asked…. According to the USDA people of color own a lesser amount of land, land acreage and land value in the United States.

This fact needs to change. Back to the Basic Farm expectation is to impact this unfortunate circumstance through education, community involvement and support. More importantly, it is of great importance for people of color to be a driving force in the economic and health of our communities in which we live and work. Many of the communities that have a lack of healthy food choices occur in communities of color. We have to come together to make a positive change for the future of the next generations to come.
